Music Events

During the summer months, concerts are held in both villages. In Bönigen, locals and guests gather by the lake, while in Iseltwald, the concerts take place at the village square. See how traditions and folklore from times past are still lived today. Listen to the sounds of the alphorn players accompanied by flag bearers or be delighted by local yodelers. Bönigen's folk dancers proudly present traditional dances in their costumes, which are often passed down from generation to generation. The local music societies perform their repertoires.

Concerts on a spectacular stage, surrounded by mountains reflected in the deep blue water of Lake Brienz. The concerts are free of charge. If the weather is bad, the concert will be cancelled.

    Events in the villages

    Folklore, music, and many attractions can be found at 'See You,' which takes place every summer in Bönigen, weather permitting. In recent years, activities have included cow snipping, farm games, llama walking, a mobile play station, alphorn players, flag bearers, cheese-making demonstrations, country music, line dancing, and much more. A festival restaurant is, of course, also a must. Let yourself be surprised by what this year's See You event will offer!

    The traditional Häfelifescht takes place every year on July 31st by the lake in Bönigen, weather permitting. You can look forward to musical entertainment, dancing, and folklore. There’s also something for the little ones, such as pony rides, a bounce castle, and face painting.

    Discover the market stalls featuring handmade and local delicacies. Of course, your culinary needs will also be met: enjoy freshly baked wood-fired bread, perch fillets from Lake Brienz, grilled sausages, and much more. All of this is accompanied by musical entertainment.

    In Bönigen on Lake Brienz, seaplanes from all over the world come together – a spectacular event you shouldn't miss. Take the unique opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking landscape from a bird's-eye view as a passenger aboard a seaplane. If you'd rather stay on the ground, you can comfortably observe the fascinating spectacle from the shore and soak in the special atmosphere at the lake

    Once a year, Iseltwald experiences a special event; the Summer festival takes place on the second weekend of July. People of all ages gather to celebrate. There will be dancing, games, and laughter. You are also warmly invited to join in.

    The leisurely hike through the village, with samples of various types of beer, has quickly become a popular spring event. It's a great opportunity to meet old friends, make new connections, and enjoy lively discussions about the finer details of hops and malt.

    Events around the Alp

    In the pristine landscape of Bättenalp above Iseltwald, the traditional 'Bärgdorfet' takes place every year. The event is all about coming together and celebrating village life – a festival where residents from surrounding villages meet, celebrate, and foster community spirit. On this day, driving up to Harzisboden is allowed. A mountain sermon, festive catering, musical entertainment by local artists, and dancing await you.

    The end of the Alpine summer is traditionally celebrated with the sharing of the alp cheese. According to ancient custom, the cheese produced during the summer on the alpine pastures is shared among the farmers. Be part of this festival! On-site, you will have the opportunity to taste the freshly made alpine cheese.

    As the alpine summer comes to an end, the cows return from the alp to the valley. The cows are adorned with colorful decorations and can be seen on the streets. Various alpabzüge take place in the region. From the "Küenzlen-Läger" alp, the cows return to their home barn in Bönigen, and from the Bättenalp above Iseltwald, they make their way via Bönigen to Goldswil.

    Events for the public holidays

    The Easter Bunny hides colorful Easter eggs with letters in Iseltwald every year. From Good Friday to Easter Monday, children can search for them. With a bit of guessing, the letters form a solution word, which can be submitted to us along with a drawing, letter, or poem for the Easter Bunny. The most creative submissions will be rewarded with a prize.

    In Iseltwald, the National Day begins with the traditional village breakfast, a hearty meal hosted by the local riflemen. The celebration continues throughout the day with children's games, live music, a food stand, and in the evening, there are speeches, a lantern procession, and of course, fireworks over the lake.

    In Bönigen, on the evening of August 1st, a torchlight procession takes place. The procession starts at the school square, and children receive a lantern. A small surprise awaits at the lake.

    According to an old tradition, on November 30th, the feast day of Saint Andrew, children dressed in costumes walk through Bönigen. Either individually or in groups, they knock on doors, perform a song or rhyme, and hope for small gifts like sweets.

    In both villages, a new decorated Advent window opens every day during the Advent season. While admiring the windows, you can often enjoy a mulled wine, punch, tea, or small snacks.

    Every year, around December 6th, Bönigen is visited by Samichlous. On the evening of December 6th, Samichlous is at the school square, where children can recite their poems and receive a "Chlouse-Säckli" filled with treats (registration required). You can also visit Samichlous and his donkey in his little hut in Bönigen. Follow the lights along a stroller-friendly nature trail to reach the location.

    In Iseltwald, the Christmas Market takes place during the pre-Christmas period. Stroll through the stalls and be surprised by all the wonderful things to discover. You can look forward to market stalls, culinary delights, musical entertainment, and much more.

    The small but charming Advent Market at the school square in Bönigen is the perfect place to get into the Christmas spirit. The exclusively local exhibitors invite you to enjoy the cozy atmosphere with tempting and creative displays.

      The tradition of driving away the old year and evil spirits with loud noise is maintained in Bönigen and Iseltwald by the cowbell ringers (Trychler). On December 31st, they make their rounds through the village with their loud bells, ensuring that the old year is driven out everywhere.

      Sport events

      The most beautiful marathon in the world starts in Interlaken and passes through Bönigen and the villages, leading up to Kleine Scheidegg, at the foot of the Jungfrau. Whether you’re running as a participant or cheering on as a spectator, being part of the event is truly a special experience.
