The hike from the Niederhorn to the Gemmenalphorn is a highlight with an impressive panorama. With a bit of luck, you may even spot chamois, ibex, and marmots along the way.
There are two ways to reach Niederhorn:
- Take the bus to Beatenberg, then ride the cable car up to Niederhorn.
- Alternatively, take the bus to Beatenbucht, then the railway to Beatenberg, followed by the gondola lift to Niederhorn.
The Lobhornhütte is a popular destination for hikers, accessible via numerous trails. We have chosen the route from Saxeten. This spectacular hike starts in the picturesque mountain village of Saxeten, which you can reach bus from Wilderswil, and takes you over Bällenhöchst to the Lobhornhütte.
From Saxeten, the ascent begins through lush alpine meadows and forests. The climb to Bällenhöchst requires a good level of fitness, but it rewards you with a breathtaking panorama of the Bernese Oberland. From the summit, the trail continues towards the Lobhornhütte, offering stunning views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the Eiger, and the Jungfrau, with each step revealing more of these majestic peaks.
In this hiking suggestion, we've put together three hikes to create an impressive day tour. You can reach the starting point at Männlichen via Grindelwald Terminal or Lauterbrunnen-Wengen.
Total distance: 14.7 km
Total hiking time: 5.00 hours
Enjoy the unique mountain panorama at Männlichen. The first part of the hike takes you from Männlichen along the Panorama tail to Kleine Scheidegg.
The hike continues along the Jungfrau Eiger Trail to the Eiger Glacier station. The Fallbodensee lake, with its benches, invites you to take a refreshing footbath.
(The hike is described in reverse)
From the Eiger Glacier station, you can continue the hike along the Eiger Trail to Alpiglen. The trail takes you over scree slopes at the foot of the north face, past an impressive waterfall, to the Berghaus and Alpiglen railway station. Enjoy the marvelous view of the valley and the infamous north face of the Eiger throughout the hike.
From Alpiglen, take the train back to Interlaken Ost via Grindelwald Grund.
This breathtaking high-altitude hike takes you from the Schynigen Platte via the Faulhorn to First.
You can reach the starting point on the Schynigen Platte by train from Wilderswil. From Iseltwald and Bönigen, you can reach Wilderswil by bus to Interlaken Ost and then take the train to Wilderswil, where you need to change to the train to Schynige Platte.
The train journey on the nostalgic railway is a highlight in itself. The impressive mountain hike offers breathtaking views of the Bernese Alps, Lakes Thun and Brienz, and the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau triumvirate. The route runs across alpine meadows, rugged mountain paths, and leads over the summit of the Faulhorn, which offers spectacular panoramic views.
This varied and somewhat challenging hike takes you past the Pochtenfall up to the Rengglipass. The magnificent alpine meadows and wonderful views invite you to take a breather. The ascent to the Morgenberghorn continues, with the breathtaking panorama compensating you for the exertions. The descent via Brunni once again requires maximum concentration.
Take the bus to Interlaken and then the train to Spiez. In Spiez, change to the bus to Aeschi. From Aeschi, you reach the Suldental, where the hike begins.
